When UK techno pioneers The Black Dog teamed up with the similarly-minded and mysterious Dutch outfit Psychick Warriors of Gaia to become the Dadavistic Orchestra, they created a double a-sided release of ambient electronic drone called Dokument .01. The follow-up, lovingly titled Dokument .02, they bring a similarly beat less release of six tunes coming in at 11 minutes long that seem aimed squarely at showcasing the continued influence of the IDM they helped create.

Those who dig deep vibes will grow to love this orchestra’s electronic symphonies.

“Deep Old Mu” opens the album with a subtle, spooky drone into which a tentative piano drops to create a mythical melody that fades almost as soon as you realise it’s there. “Petrichore” sustains a eerie mood with a sustained synthetic backdrop before “Teh Meh, Teh Meh” takes you to an alien jungle with a starry skyline. “Unconcerned, But Not Indifferent” seems lost in a void but leading into “De Kunst: Star Dot Star” there emerges a more tuneful melancholy ahead of the closing track “De Neerstorting van de meningvan de kathderaal” returns with haunted galaxy gazing.

The ambient analogue of Dokument .02 is an ethereal experience that conjures up visions of complex shapes and colours, the science of the sound becoming all-encompassing. Likely to be listened to through a haze of deep discussion or a blissed out midnight chill out, it will find few casual fans but those who dig deep vibes will grow to love this orchestra’s electronic symphonies.
