Nonclassical to celebrate 20 years at Hackney Empire with Beatrice Dillon, LSO, Matthew Herbert

Nonclassical will celebrate 20 years of events with an orchestral clubnight at London's Hackney Empire on Saturday, October 26th.

Dubbed Nonclaxxical, the night will feature a Beatrice Dillon's first-ever orchestral work, DJ sets from Matthew Herbert, and the London Symphony Orchestra performing new music.

There will be13 contemporary works by living composers, including Tansy Davies, Mica Levi, Gabriel Prokofiev, Tonia Ko, Sasha Scott, and Emily Abdy.

The night will start with Beatrice Dillon's Sift: Piano, Vibraphone, Other – translates her distinct vocabulary of synthetic sound and generative systems into the acoustic realm of the orchestra.

Mica Levi’s Love from Jonathan Glazer’s film Under the Skin, Award-winning composer Sasha Scott’s Inertia, and nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev playing Dark Lights will also feature.

Crossovers include punk vocals from Emily Abdy, bubblewrap from Tonia Ko, and Tansy Davies’ reinterpretation of a 16th century dance tune.

The night ends with the first ever Concerto for Drum Machine and Orchestra, with movements by composers Laurence Osborn, Beni Giles, Max de Wardener, and Josephine Stephenson, celebrating the Roland 808 drum machine.
