Icelandic pop icon Björk will headline Berlin Festival on Saturday, September 7th. It will mark the end of her Biophilia tour, the only German show based on the app-based album. Partly composed on a tablet computer, the live performances have been typically eccentric explorations of her music.
The Ten Cities project combining European and African dance music continues next month in Nairobi, Kenya. From April 14th to May 1st, Lisbon’s Octa Push and Batida plus Berlin’s Oren Gerlitz will join forces with Kenya’s Just A Band and Camp Mulla to record new tracks. These will be then be added to the collection of recordings made in Nigeria, Angola, Egypt and South Africa for future release, plus live performances including a festival in Berlin next year.
The A Night With… series continues in April with a return to Basing House soundtracked by Haçienda legend Graeme Park. The third installment this year on Friday, April 12th follows eight hour sets from A Guy Called Gerald and Trevor Jackson.
The 10th anniversary of London’s South West Four weekender on Clapham Common will include a London exclusive appearance from Eric Prydz. He’ll play the second day on Sunday, August 25th along with already announced acts such as Example, Andy C, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, Todd Edwards and DJ EZ.
Essex electronic dance music festival High Definition is back for 2013 with headliners Labrinth, Ms Dynamite and Sinead Hartnett. The one-day event on Saturday, June 29th will return to Forest Farm with four arenas of contemporary and old skool sounds.
Maya Jane Coles will headline London electronic music festival FOUND. The one-day event in Haggerston Park, Shoreditch will also feature Lee Foss, MK, Huxley, Henrik Schwarz, Wolf + Lamb, Floating Points and Shonky on Saturday, June 15th.
Berlin electronic music duo Modeselektor will hold the UK première of their movie We Are Modeselektor ahead of a live set at Camden’s The Roundhouse on Friday, May 17th.
My Bloody Valentine, Klaxons, Fritz Kalkbrenner and John Talabot have been added to the Berlin Festival. The two-day event running on Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport will also feature Blur, Pet Shop Boys and Justice.
Get wined, dined, divined and enchanted at Lounge on the Farm this summer. From Friday, july 26th to Sunday, July 28th the festival returns to Merton Farm in Cantebury for its eigth year. Heading it up will be a diverse line up of legends including Seasick Steve supported by Lucy Rose, Soul II Soul with full band and Caron Wheeler flying in from the States.
Robert Owens, Daniel Avery, Andrew Weatherall, The Martinez Brothers, Subb-an, Adam Shelton, Justin Robertson and Bruh Jackman have been announced for FARR Festival 2013. The intimate dance event in Newham’s Bygrave Woods in Hertfordshire will run from Fri July, 19th to Sunday, July 21st with Jackmaster, Oneman, DBridge, Eats Everything and Bicep among the acts previously revealed.
Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice and Marco Carola will play Time Warp in Germany’s Mannheim on Saturday, April 6th. More than 40 house and techno DJs as well as five live acts will make up the one night party at the Maimarkthalle.
Audiovisual specialist DJ Yoda returns to London on bank holiday Sunday, May 5th for a classic hip hop set at Camden’s Koko.
Digitalism and Gary Numan will headline this year’s Playground Festival of techno, electro and house music. The event moves to Brixton Academy this year for two nights on Friday, June 7th and Saturday, June 8th. UNKLE’s James Lavelle, Booka Shade, Vitalic, James Zabeila, DJ Hell, Kavinsky and Model 500 will also play.
Kelpe will headline the Electoacoustics night at Hackney’s The Seabright Arms on Saturday, March 23rd. They will be joined by flies+flies plus Lychee from 8pm.
In what zap! bang! hopes will be a contender for film of the year, Ryan Gosling stars in The Place Beyond the Pines with Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta and Rose Byrne released in the UK on Friday, April 12th.
Chart-topper Example will headline the second day of dance festival South West Four on Sunday, August 25th. Andy C, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, Todd Edwards, DJ EZ, Dismantle and Roska have also been confirmed for the Clapham Common event. Laidback Luke, Gareth Emery, Tensnake, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano will play the first day on Saturday, August 24th.
The organiser of dance music festival Love Saves the Day will continue the party with a second event over the May bank holiday weekend. On Sunday, May 26th Castle Park will welcome acts including Ben UFO, DJ Derek, Ghostpoet, Jacques Greene and Lulu James owing to demand for tickets to the previous day. Tickets are expected to sell out for Loves Saves the Day very soon, tickets for Love Saves Sunday start at £19.50 or £15 for those already with tickets for the first day who purchase in March.
Plan B, Example, Disclosure and Rita Ora top the line-up for GlobalGathering in July. The two-day dance event at Long Marston Airfield in Stratford Upon Avon will also feature Jamie Jones, Nicky Romero and Annie Mac on Friday, July 26th and Saturday, July 27th. There will be a new arena from BBC Radio 1Xtra, the return of Carl Cox and UKF as arena hosts plus new production and site development.
The first in a series of Bloc clubnight events in London will feature Model 500 live tomorrow (Saturday, March 9th). The electronic music promoters will host 10 nights at a studio in Hackney Wick, with close-up views of the Olympic Stadium and a capacity of 500. For the first show Model 500 will be supported by a Juan Atkins DJ set plus Billy Nasty, South London Ordnance, Joe Hart and Rebel Intelligence.
Camp Bestival has revealed its first acts for the event at Lulworth Castle from Thursday, August 1st to Sunday, August 4th. Sasha, Grandmaster Flash, Labrinth, Alan Davies, DJ Fresh, Richard Hawley and Levellers will all play the family-friendly festival along with Mr Tumble, an exclusive from Horrible Histories and Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo.
Techno minimalist Richie Hawtin will headline Eastern Electrics Festival in August. The three day dance music event at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire will feature more than 100 house and techno acts. Kerri Chandler, Jackmaster, Spencer, Kyle Hall, Chez Damier, Gerd, Tommy Four Seven, Brian Sanhaji, Matt Tolfrey, Christophe and Lukas have also been announced.
Student DJs can win a set at boutique festival Gottwood in June. Organisers of the event in Wales are looking for budding DJs and producers to submit their original mixes, preferably done with two decks and a mixer. Prizes for the winner include a ticket to Gottwood, a peak-time set at the festival and a release on the Gottwood Presents Podcast series. Two runners up will also get to play the festival.
Sónar continues its global festival tour with two events in Japan next month. The sixth SonarSound Tokyo will take place on April 6th and 7th, and the first A Taste of Sónar Osaka will be held on Friday, April 5th and Monday, April 8th.
Thom Yorke’s supergroup side project Atoms for Peace will headline Germany’s Melt! Festival in July. The three-day event will run from July 19th to 21st on the peninsula of Ferropolis, close to Gräfenhainichen, with The Knife, Alt-J, James Blake and Modeselektor also among the first acts announced.
An immersive, theatrical, gaming adventure culminating in a big party is coming to London in March. From the organisers of boutique festival Winterwell, Wilfred Bagshaw’s Time Emporium will be at Shoreditch’s Villege Underground on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd.
