One of the most prolific electronica artists Luke Vibert revives his Wagon Christ moniker this year with a new album and an appearance at London’s XOYO.
King of stoned exotica, ridiculous vocal samples, swinging rhythm and psychedelic groove, Vibert is never one to take himself too seriously. This exclusive performance on Saturday, March 19th brings his new album, Toomorrow into the World following its release on Ninja Tune on Monday, March 14th. Built around a dizzying array of vocal samples, the album spins out in a hundred and one directions whilst always being recognizably a Wagon Christ production.
Promotor Soundcrash has assembled an impressive supporting line-up including Ceephax, aka Andy Jenkinson – Squarepusher’s brother. Anarchist of analogue abstract electronica he’s been pushing bubbling acid to the fore and creating 303-stuffed collages of gabba frenzy and 8-bit barminess for years. Parisian Synth Magician Xavier Thomas, aka dEbruit and his melee of jack-knifing riddims, booby-trapped syncopation and bass heavy collisions will be a treat while Jack-of-all-trades Mike Ladd returns to London especially for Soundcrash with his Infesticons project, a musical vehicle aimed at combating “indifference and apathy” which combines hip-hop’s swagger with funk’s intensity and punk’s attitude”.
A generous helping of soulful, twitchy and killer hyperactive tweaks and beats from Young Montana?, dubbed as Mary Anne Hobbs “Favorite Unsigned Artist of 2010”, will round off the evening. Room two will see I Love Acid and Keep Up! supply the tunes.
