Bad Bunny, Lil Uzi Vert, The Matthew Herbert Brexit Big Band, Louie Vega and Honey Dijon have joined the Sónar Barcelona 2019 line-up. The music, Creativity and technology festival returns from Thursday, July 18th to Saturday, July 20th with a closing concert on Sunday, July 21st.
DJ Krush, Acid Arab, Neon Chambers (Kangding Ray + Sigha), Quiet Ensemble, Hamill Industries & Shelly, Los Voluble, SebastiAn, Territoire, Berlinist, Diego Navarro, Lil Moss, Tutu, Fake Guido, Macromassa, Shiva Feshareki, Afrodeutsche, Bill Kouligas and Virgen Maria have also been confirmed.
Japanese artist Daito Manabe will present, in collaboration with Yukiyasu Kamitani - doctor in neuroscience from the University of Kyoto - their “dissonant imaginary” project. The show visualise the emotions and thoughts that are produced when we listen to certain sounds, and that will mark a point of inflection in how we think of the connection between music and our brain.
Similarly, Istanbul based creative studio Ouchhh and Barcelona duo Za! will join forces for “Superstrings” - a reference to super-string theory which will visualise the brain waves produced by the two musicians while they are playing in real time.
On the Sunday, Matthew Herbert returns to the festival for the closing concert at the Teatre Grec with The The Matthew Herbert Brexit Big Band. The orchestra, formed in response to the departure of the UK from the EU, will feature more than 20 musicians on stage plus, for only that night, the Cor Pilot de ESMUC - a 50 person choir.
