Shambala, Secret Garden Party, Aespia and Nozstock The Hidden Valley were among the winners at the 2017 Independent Festival Awards. The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) announced the prizes at its Festival Congress in Cardiff on Monday, October 30th.
This year’s awards included Unique Festival Arena going to Womb With A View at Shambala, Best Smart Marketing won by Secret Garden Party’s VIP/Celebrity Obsession Theme, Live Act of the Year handed to IDLES, Mind Blowing Spectacle given to Nozstock The Hidden Valley’s Closing Festival Fire Show and New Festival on the Block to Aespia. Gongs for Festival Caterer of the Year and Act of Independence went to Happy Maki and Greenbelt Festival respectively.
Secret Garden Party Founder Freddie Fellowes was the recipient of the inaugural Pioneer Award following his dedication to inspiring the UK festival scene over the last 13 years. Greenbelt Festival handed the second Act of Independence’ award for Amal and their new Muslim artistry venue and programme and their focus on Palestinian festival programming.
