Black Coffee, DJ Nobu, Miss Kittin, Daedelus and the Sónar festival directors are among the names who have presented playlists and exclusive mixes to mark the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona event. A musical history by co-director Ricard Robles, an exclusive ‘digital compilation’ by Black Coffee and 25 commissioned mixes by a selection of artists on this year’s line-up are all available now.
This year’s Sónar runs from Thursday, June 14th to Saturday, June 16th, but co-director Ricard Robles looks back to the founding year in 1994 by presenting 25 of his favourite tracks by acts who have played the festival. Kraftwerk, LFO, Orbital, Aphex Twin, Skrillex, Die Antword, Squarepusher, Flying Lotus, Beastie Boys, Dizzee Rascal and Richie Hawtin all feature - all available on the Sonar Festival Spotify page which also hosts selections from Alva Noto, Mumdance and DJ Stingray, plus An Introduction to Sónar Festival 2018.
Meanwhile, South African DJ Black Coffee who played A Taste of Sónar in Johannesburg in 2014 has created a digital compilation album featuring emerging African artists. Mixed and recorded in LA in April 2018, the mixtape also serves as a warm-up for his closing set at Sónar by Day on Friday, June 15th capping off a showcase of African artists. Listen here.
