Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Richie Hawtin, Bonobo, Ólafur Arnalds, Kode9 and Laurent Garnier will play the 25th edition of Sónar Barcelona next year. They are among the first of 130 shows announced for the three-day event running from Thursday, June 14th to Saturday, June 16th.
Gorillaz will present their new show of Humanz tune plus popular hits backed by special guests. LCD Soundsytem return armed with songs from recent album American Dream while Richie Hawtin will present his CLOSE audiovisual show with cameras distributed around the stage to transmit his performance and Laurent Garnier will play a four-hour closing set on the Saturday night in SonarPub.
Also confirmed are George FitzGerald and Bicep presenting live shows plus Diplo, Maribou State, Helena Hauff, Black Coffee, Wiley, Jamz Supernova, Jarami, Nídia, Mueveloreina, Rels B and Dinamarca.
Red Bull Music Academy joins the 25th celebration with their Diggin’ in the Carts project celebrating Japanese video game music. Kode9 brings a VGM-inspired performance with visuals by animator Koji Morimoto, composers Yuzo Koshiro & Motohiro Kawashima perform classics from games such as Streets of Rage live with visuals by Konx-om-Pax, and DITC Sound plays favorites from the genre’s history. RBMA will also see shows from Violet & Photonz, Swedish trio Studio Barnhus and Tony Humphries.
On Thursday, June 14th night, Sónar at L’Auditori will present a concert by Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC) conducted by Brad Lubman, performing minimalist piece “In C” by Californian composer Terry Riley.
Sónar+D, the congress for technology and cultural industries will again run from Wednesday, June 13th to Saturday, June 16th. Participation in the Sónar Innovation Challenge, directed to tech companies with specific needs of innovation and recruitment of talents; MarketLab, focused on companies, creative studios and educational centres; and Startup Garden, the space dedicated to startups related with the creative industries in the search of funding rounds, is open now.
