The moment the most famous DJs on the planet bite their nails and wonder how dance fans across the globe rate their mixing and tune selection skills against their peers is almost upon us once more. Yes, the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs 2010 is to be revealed later this month and the question is will it be the end for the trance stranglehold on the number one spot and Armin Van Buuren’s three year reign at the number 1 DJ? All will be revealed on October 27th with simultaneous parties in London and Manchester crowning the fan favourite.
Ok, so it’s unlikely that a trance DJ won’t be sitting pretty at the top of the charts again this year as it remains such a favourite worldwide with Armin, Tiesto and Paul van Dyk all enjoying stints in pole position. However, the ascent of David Guetta in recent polls, rising from number 10 in 2007 to number three in 2009, his blend of French house infused with electro and famous vocalists has seen him make a real assault on the charts, headlining dance festivals and generally becoming a major force in the DJ world. It could be his year to push out the trance masters.
It could be Guetta’s year to push out the trance masters.
It’s also been a year which has seen dubstep continue its rise in popularity, with Caspa taking primetime slots at festivals across the world while Benga and Skream remain in-demand names. Will one of them find themselves up with the greats? A 100% public vote, the final DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list is decided by dedicated dance music fans from over 230 countries! Last year over 350,000 votes were cast, and as viral campaigns become even more imaginative it is predicted that number will rise significantly in 2010. With every genre covered and over 40,000 DJs names included last year, one man will reveal the winner: that man is famed DJ Boy George.
He’s hosting the award ceremony at the Ministry of Sound on Wednesday, October 27th where Sasha, Deadmau5, Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Eddie Halliwell, Afrojack and Jerone Isma-ae will spin the tunes alongside the announced number 1 DJ. Meanwhile, in Manchester, Sankeys will host its own night featuring Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Mat Zo, Oliver Lang and the number 1 DJ fresh from a helicopter ride from the capital.
If you want in on either night, you better get to the venue early: entry will be first come, first served! Mark Wednesday, October 27th in your diaries now.
