DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs Party

“Armin, Armin, Armin” the Ministry of Sound crowd demanded. The three-times number one in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ vote was clearly in high demand as the ravers crammed into London’s Ministry of Sound chanted his name as they awaited the result of the fan-voted poll, and award presenter Boy George was feeling the heat as he told them to calm down. With the result down to Armin or David Guetta, the fast-rising DJ and producer who has been a star attraction at dance festival this year, it was obvious that only one man was going to induce cheers. Who would it be?

As the lights went low and Boy George introduced a video message from the second placed DJ, Guetta appeared to thank those who had voted for him — takng him up one place to number two and ahead of Tiesto, the winner of the award three times in a row. Boos sounded out across the dancefloor, somewhat harshly, though as Armin was crowned the number one for a record-breaking fourth time in a row, it was obvious Ministry was packed with hsi fans to hear his winning set.

This contest has always has a trance-bias with Above & Beyond taking up position five, however there was roars of approval when Deadmau5 picked up this award for top eletro-house DJ and the top-placed drum & bass DJ Andy C was delighted with coming 61st, arriving in person to take home his trophy and admitting that his genre rarely gets a look in so climbing 39 places was a real feat. Gongs also went to Carl Cox as the hightest place techno DJ at 22, Headhunterz as top head dance entry at number 36, Infected Mushroom for their psy-trance style getting them to 13th and Dash Berlin for the highest new entry at number 15.

However, all eyes were tuned into Armin as he collected the top prize and promptly stepped behind the decks to celebrate in true DJ style with Swedish House Mafia’s “One” kicking off his set coupled with pyrotechnics and ticker tape. It was the centrepiece to a packed night at Ministry which also saw Sasha, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand and Eddie Halliwell grace the decks while Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery and Armin himself also spun the tunes at Sankey’s in Manchester. Will Armin make it five in a row next year? Time will tell.
