Urban artist Day-z will present new work at her 99 Problems exhibition in London. Running at their Beautiful Crime Gallery on Curtain Road from Friday, October 20th to Monday, November 6th, it’s an opportunity to see a collection of provocative works surrounding themes of contemporary social and political culture which incorporate the tongue-in-cheek interpretation Day-z is known for.
Day-z uses a pencil to create life-life and intricate drawings, meshed with collage. 99 Problems sees Day-z contrast modern issues with famous classic paintings or traditional cartoon characters - whether this be Snow White listening to her Apple iPod or Caravaggio’s Saint Jerome sporting a New York baseball cap.
The show covers dismal topical and humanitarian issues such as our obsession with global brands or humankind’s wealth vs the destruction of the planet. Last year, Day-z was named one of After Nyne magazine’s ‘9 Artist’s to Look Out For’ and in 2015 was awarded the Derwent Art Prize ‘People’s Choice Award’.
Day-z’s 99 Problems exhibition will run from Friday, October 20th to Monday, November 6th at the Beautiful Crime Gallery at Jealous, 53 Curtain Road, EC2A 3PT. Exhibition will be open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 11am to 6pm; Sundays to Tuesdays appointment only For details go to beautifulcrime.gallery.
