Camp Bestival 2012


The family-friendly Camp Bestival has unveiled the first details of the 2012 event at Lulworth Castle in July. Their Olympic-themed weekend will feature a of screening the opening ceremony live in the Big Top on Friday night complete with a Camp Bestival torch, plus the Camp Bestival Blue Coats will host a 2012 Silly Olympics. Musical highlights will include Hot Chip, Kool & The Gang, Chic and the Earth Wind & Fire Experience for a fun-filled four days with more than 100 free things for kids to do.

Electronic indie act Hot Chip will ensure the trendy adults get a treat while Saturday will have the Night Fever with a disco spectacular featuring Kool & The Gang dropping the Jungle Boogie, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers on an epic journey through their back catalogue and more glitter ball behaviour from the Earth Wind & Fire Experience featuring Al McKay. The younger members of the audience will be delighted to learn Mr Tumble, Fantastic Mr Fox and Shrek, Dinkey and Princess Fiona from Shrek The Musical will be at the festival. The more cultured guests will be able to learn from the English National Ballet, returning for the fourth year to host ballet classes.

Among the other musical treats will be reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, Brightonian hip-hop wunderkinds Rizzle Kicks, Adam Ant & The Good, The Bad and The Lovely Posse, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, The Cuban Brothers, Dub Pistols, DJ Yoda & The Transiberian Marching Band, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer and Folk Idol presents The Folk Olympics. DJs will include sets from Horse Meat Disco’s The Revenge and Mark E, David Rodigan MBE Presents Ram Jam, The Japanese Popstars, Jaguar Skills and his Amazing Friends, Greg Wilson and Ben UFO.

Musical treats include reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, Brightonian hip-hop wunderkinds Rizzle Kicks, Adam Ant & The Good, The Bad and The Lovely Posse, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, The Cuban Brothers, Dub Pistols, DJ Yoda.

Food lovers will get the chance to fill their boots with some of the country’s finest young chefs, street food vendors, bakers and mixologists under one roof in the Young British Foodies Tent. Winners of the nationwide search for the most talented Young British Foodies will be joined by the YBF all-star foodie judges to create a never-been-done-before eating experience. Author of Supper Club, food blogger and chef MsMarmitelover will host The Underground Restaurant with a theatrical dining experience and there will be an Underground Farmers Market for those wanting to indulge in campsite delicacies. Kid’s favourite The Gruffalo show is also back by unprecedented demand plus Being 747 will be performing their scientific rock opera The Clockwork Universe and slapstick comedians The Bopps! featuring Housemartins founder Stan Cullimore will be entertaining the crowds.

Troops of Morris Dancers, the Wall of Death, bedtime stories with Howard Marks, The Roundhouse Street Variety Show and summer panto Beauti and the Beast of Lulworth Castle are just some of the other attractions for this year’s Camp Bestival. Founder Rob da Bank said: “I can’t believe it’s still only January yet my heads firmly entrenched in a field in Dorset in July thinking about all the mighty musical offerings and other fun and games we have lined up for Camp Bestival. From Chic to Hot Chip, Jimmy Cliff to Little Dragon and Mr Tumble to Rizzle Kicks it’s another very diverse line up reflecting all the different ages and tribes that descend on Lulworth Castle each year!
