Bestival to celebrate 250 years of human cannonball

On the day (Tuesday, January 9th) that marks the 250th anniversary of Philip Astley’s first circus performance at Westminster Bridge, Bestival has revealed they will feature a human cannonball at this year’s festival. Returning to Lulworth Estate from Thursday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 5th, the circus themed event will see Rodrigo Pérez fired from the barrel of a custom-built cannon.

Bestival ringmaster Rob da Bank said: “In my other life as Ringmaster Robby, I’m pretty darn excited about having a Human Cannonball flying across the Lulworth Estate in August. Rodrigo is the best in the business and will not disappoint. Watch ya heads!”

Human Cannonball Rodrigo Pérez added: “Firing yourself out of an enormous cannon takes a man of a high calibre. Luckily, I’m a cannonball kind of guy. Come and be amazed as I shoot through the sky, flying over your crazy, smiling faces.”

The music line-up plus details such as circus feats, bearded ladies, sword swallowers and sideshow shenanigans will be revealed in the coming weeks.

For tickets priced from £149 and details go to bestival.net.
