20 Years of Planet E featuring Carl Craig

Carl Craig’s Planet E label turns 20 this year so that can mean only one thing: a big party! On Saturday, March 5th legendary producer and multi-faceted experimentalist remixer Carl Craig is bringing the sound of Detroit to London with Francois K, Radio Slave and Paul Woolford already confirmed as support.

The Planet E warehouse party will see Craig, one of the mainstays of the Detroit techno sound, celebrate launching the label in 1991 with “4 Jazz Funk Classics”, produced under alias 69. Now 41, the producer has cultivated a unique path as an artist, entrepreneur and civic leader, guided by his tendency toward forward thinking and futurism. He’s been nominated for a Grammy – in 2008 for his remix of Junior Boys’ “Like a Child” – and has released under a list of aliases, as his eclectic style explores the possibilities of electronic music. One of his recent projects, Innerzone Orchestra, saw him produce one of his most memorable tunes – “Bug in the Bass Bin” – and his efforts as 69, Paperclip People and Carl Craig have been equally critically acclaimed along with his lavish DJ sets.

Moodymann, Francesco Mora Catlett and Monty Luke, Kevin Saunderson, Psycatron and Alton Miller have all had releases on Planet E to help shape its history and Carl Craig has shaped an equally impressive roster of support for this 20th anniversary. There will be a hotly-anticipated set from house legend Francois Kevorkian – one of the forefathers of the house sound – along with UK super-producer and re-edit genius Matt Edwards, aka Radio Slave, world-renowned DJ and producer Paul Woolford and Irish techno duo Psycatron – Paul Hamill and Dave Lievense. While Francois K and Woolford will deliver their usual unpredictable sets and Edwads will be more experimental, Psycatron have firmly established themselves as Detroit techno evolutionaries. Lauded for their high-profile Planet E releases and their energetic and emotional DJ sets, this one-to-watch outfit are at the forefront of a new age in techno production. There are more acts still to be announced.

The Planet E party will take to Ewer Street Warehouse in London on Saturday, March 5th. Tickets are available exclusively via Resident Advisor at the early birds price of £12.50 before rising to £15 and £17.50.
