Maximo Park have become the band they deserve to be. The night belonged to them, though the energy and craziness of The Blood Arm in support warmed the crowd into a near frenzy. Since single success with “Apply Some Pressure” they have gone from strength to overwhelming strength. Like a beautifully oiled machine they roared through their set with fluidity and passion — they thoroughly enjoyed playing, almost as much as we enjoyed watching. Their song lyrics hit the brain with a flurry of images that we can all relate to in one way or another. Whilst Lucas (organist) stamped across the stage possessed; Paul (vocals) belted out his poetry dodging an onslaught of stage divers. Favourites — “The Coast Is Always Changing” & “Grafitti” whipped the crowd into a hysteria matched only by the energy of the band. New song “A19”, a nostalgic ride through the north is the product of a very accomplished and comprehensive band. All comparisons to the The Futureheads should be swept aside, Maximo Park are on their own road. Bring on the album.
