One half of M.A.N.D.Y. took the controls for eight hours of revelry as A Night With… welcomed Patrick Bodmer behind the decks for one of its epic mixing sessions. Relocated to The Loft in Willesden, west London, the journey to the venue was something of a pilgrimage for many M.A.N.D.Y. fans, but they were repaid with a lively atmosphere in an environment befitting of a swanky flat party complete with table football for added entertainment.
A lively atmosphere in an environment befitting of a swanky flat party.
The monthly A Night With… series always attracts some of the most forward thinking or inventive dance music producers such as part performers Michael Mayer and Matthew Dear, with Bodmer there was both and a sense of fun as he wore a smile on his face throughout. Jumping between minimal, disco, house and techno the dancefloor savoured every key change and bass drop on the Funktion 1 soundsystem. For those who needed a break from the Bodmer sound – and only the super fans were likely to withstand the pace required to groove eight hours straight – The Loft offered plenty. An outdoor courtyard for smoking boasted plenty of seating and table football for a bit of gamesmanship while ascending the steps led back to the dancefloor which was very much an expansive loftspace with wooden floors and a bar at the rear.
Though it did take a while to get served at times owing to the venue reaching capacity despite being on the outskirts of London, the positive atmosphere suggested there were no complaints. The Loft makes for an impressive new venue for the A Night With… series to use and will no doubt sell out again after its christening by Bodmer’s engaging efforts. Get Physical labelmates Booka Shade even dropped by to get a taste of the action which can only be a good thing: perhaps they will be persuaded to take up the A Night With… mantel.
