South London garage rockers The Leo Star Electric Band’s mission is to create ‘f-ked up pop songs for the masses’. Their debut single ‘Soft & Gentle’ is about loss, specifically an ode to Amy Winehouse and Bruce Lee - two people they’ve “loved and lost”. We spoke to the band and got some interesting responses.

We get our ouija board out and let the spirits guide us.

What was the first style or genre of music you really got into? Was their a particular song or artist who inspired you?
Alanis Morris - ‘I’m Here to Remind You of Her’.

How did the The Leo Star Electric Band come about? Did you expect to be following the musical path you are now?
We work for Deliveroo and like to drink drive whilst on the job. Honestly, delivering pizza drunk is the biggest buzz - so we are all a little shocked to be pursuing music.

If you had to describe your sound as a personality, how what would it be?
Disc World novels and the Silmarillion.

What would you say makes The Leo Star Electric Band unique?
We have the Mithril shirt going on.

How do you create your music? Is there any kind of routine that helps?
We get our ouija board out and let the spirits guide us.

What have you been listening to this year? Can you give us a top three records of 2018 so far?
Ravel piano works, Donald Fagan nightfly, Led Zep physical graffiti.

If you had to pick one act to see live this year, who would it be?
Harry Nilsson.

If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
Frodo Baggins or Treebeard and Meghan Markle.

How is the rest of 2018 shaping up for you? Where can we see you play?
Two more singles coming out, then we are recording again - watch us at the Finsbury in London on Saturday, August 11th or Readipop in Reading on Saturday, November 10th - we don’t get out much since the motorbike accidents.

If you could pick any venue or festival to play, where would it be and which slot would you most like to play?
Alex from Blur and Jamie Oliver’s Oxfordshire cheese festival. I hear David Cameron likes to show up. We wanna go on before Toploader.
