Sonia Leigh will embark on her first co-headlining European tour with UK artist Sasha McVeigh and releases new single “When We Are Alone” in early April. Her music is a melting pot of indie, pop and country rock and performed at the Country 2 Country three-day music festival last year. We caught up with Sonia to find out more about her music.
2016 - a new year! What is your goal?
To release the best music I’ve made my whole career! To tour world wide.
Did you make any new year’s resolutions?
Actually no lol I was too busy celebrating! Ha!
What was the biggest lesson you learned in 2015?
I learned a lot about co-writing on music row. This was my first year signed to Hori Pro publishing. I learned how to be a songwriter for a living and how to work with other writers. It’s really taught me a lot.
What was the musical highlight of 2015?
For me playing the C2C festival in the UK and playing the London Pride for thousands of people on the day gay marriage was legalised in America. It was two dreams coming true at once. Also, because of those two things I’ve met my closest friends and built significant relationships in the UK from those two opportunities alone.
Who are you excited to hear from in 2016?
Kree Harrison and Brooke Eden they both have albums coming out and mark my words they are going to blow everyone away!
Tell us about the record you have just released…
I will be releasing a single at the end of March! Right now I am really excited about my single “When We Are Alone” it’s getting a lot of airplay and have a lot of exciting things happening with this song! It’s special to me!
If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?
Sia, because I just love her haaaa!
BONES because they are what rock and roll has been missing.
Bruce Springsteen because he is the Boss.
What inspired the record?
I was in a relationship with someone who was not out. It was very difficult. So I think some of the song was inspired by that relationship and a friend who was dating a guy who would tell her sweet nothings when they were alone but treat her like she didn’t exist in public.
If the record were an animal, what animal would it be?
Define your sound in five words…
If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?
Sia or Bruce Springsteen.
If you could have written one song by another artist, what would it be?
That is a very hard question to answer!!! I think happy birthday because the whole world knows happy birthday! And it celebrates life!
Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?
Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…
I have ADD. Ha!
