San Francisco singer-songwriter Peter Saputo returns with emotional new single ‘Lie to You’. He’s been playing guitar and writing music since the age of seven - we caught up with him to find out more about his music and latest release.

Speaking your truth definitely saves time, energy, and simply keeps you from drowning yourself in uncertainty.

First up, what got you into music?
My parents bought me a guitar when I was 7, and I just never put the thing down!

Were there any particular bands or artists you took inspiration from?
I definitely took a ton of inspiration from John Mayer. He was one of the main reasons I had kept playing guitar growing up. His songs, his style, his guitar playing, etc. just kept me constantly interested and eager to get better. Dean Lewis, The 1975, Branches, and Brolly are some artists/bands that inspired me to start writing my own music though. Their song writing styles, production, lyrics, etc. are just absolutely amazing. I will forever be looking up to all of these guys.

How would you describe your style?
I would say that I have a very raw and natural take on pop music. I try to keep my style as genuine as possible. I feel that it portrays emotions and feelings a lot more directly.

If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would you choose?
I would love to collaborate with Dean Lewis as I believe that we have super similar writing styles.

Tell us about your new single ‘Lie to You’. What’s it about?
My new single is about not being able to open up to someone you have feelings for. The bigger message within this song is to just speak up when you’re hurting. The longer you wait these things out, the more it hurts you in the end.

Don’t lie about these things and push them off to the side, don’t pretend you’re fine when you’re not, just say what you feel; say what you mean.

When did you write it, and where did you record it?
I wrote the song back at the beginning of the year and produced/tracked the entire song in my home studio!

How does ‘Lie to You’ represent your style?
‘Lie to You’ represents my style in the sense of sincerity. I tried to produce it in a way that is powerful, sad, and is so raw that it hits you where it should.

What are you hopes for ‘Lie to You’?
I hope that this song can resonate with people’s hearts-ultimately making them fearless of their feelings/emotions. Speaking your truth definitely saves time, energy, and simply keeps you from drowning yourself in uncertainty.

What other plans do you have for the rest of the year?
We are about to headline Brick & Mortar Music Hall in San Francisco and will be playing some shows over in Los Angeles, Seattle, and more! There are lots of awesome things to come the rest of the year, including many new songs!

Finally, if you could wish for one thing to happen for you this year, what would it be?
I wish to see as many faces as possible at these upcoming shows so that we can all vibe together!
