Initially a pan-national studio-based project, NKOS has evolved into a full band. Brought together by friendship, the Internet and luck, NKOS is singer/songwriter Nancy Natali, producer Flavio Manieri, producer and DJ Chris Shape and guitarist Marcus Billeri. We caught up with them to talk about new single ‘Little Miss Numb’.

Post-punk, new-wave, synth-wave, electro, trip-hop and anything in between.

First up, tell us about yourselves - what led you teaming up as NKOS?
We are all based in different places around Italy and Europe but we all met by working in various roles in the music business, as musicians, DJs and audio experts. Our common love for music brought us together and launched us in this journey as NKOS. This project is a bet on ourselves and with NKOS we try to express all our love for music.

Who do your take inspiration from?
For the production of this specific release we took inspiration from artists like Royksopp, Reznor, The Soft Moon, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, but also Cocteau Twins, Portishead, This Mortal Coil, Cranes. In general are artists like Depeche Mode and Dead Can Dance that we listen and took inspiration from but the comparison with them it is not something that we can allow ourselves to think about..

Why the name ‘NKOS’?
New Kind Of Sh!t :)

How would you describe your musical style?
Post-punk, new-wave, synth-wave, electro, trip-hop and anything in between.

If you could collaborate with any living artist or band, who would you choose?
Can we choose three? NIN, Peaches, The Chemical Brothers.

Tell us about your debut single ‘Little Miss Numb’, what’s it about?
It’s about a general feeling, a common one, one that can occur many times in life. We think we have all been a little miss numb in our lives.

When did you write ‘Little Miss Numb’, and where did you record it?
It took a couple of years around 2014/2016, we recorded it in different home studios over different sessions. Thanks to Beatbuzz Records we are realising this music today.

How does ‘Little Miss Numb’ represent your style?
Does it represent our style? Wait to hear what we got coming.

What are your hopes for ‘Little Miss Numb’?
First track played on Mars?

What other plans do you have for the year?
More singles, preparing for the release of the album, writing new music and hopefully a summer pool party.

Finally, if you could go back in time and give yourselves one piece of advice, when would it be and what would you say?
Definitely buy more analog Roland gear in the early 90s!!
