Singer-songwriter Mimoza has seen a song she penned hit number one in Japan, and has been heard on the soundtracks of German movies such as 3 Türken & 1 Baby and Fack ju Göhte 2. Mimoza’s new single, ‘Love For Days’, sees her take centre stage both as the vocalist and writer. We spoke to Mimoza about her music.

It’s almost like every song is a page of my diary.

First up, tell us bit about yourself - what first got you into music?
My real born name is Mimoza. I was born in Kosovo, grew up in Sweden and Germany, and now I live in LA. I’ve been writing songs since I was 12 years old and writing for other artists since I was 17. Now I’m finally just focusing on my own music and all my songs come from a real place. In my opinion, the best songs are the honest songs from real life experiences.

**Were there any particular bands or artists you took inspiration from? **
I’ve always looked up to Michael Jackson and I always and forever will. Beyonce, of course. I love Amy Winehouse and Adele, artists that are so true and venerable with their art.

How would you describe your style?
It’s definitely pop music mixed with my Albanian background. My lyrics are very poetic and I’d like to think my melodies are very timeless. I’m very proud of my sound. I’ve worked very hard to discover it.

You’ve had more than 65 million Spotify streams - what does that mean to you?
I’m very grateful that my music is being embraced. I can’t wait to put out more and create my own lane.

If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
Beyonce! That would be a dream. I don’t think anyone understands the love and respect I have for that woman.

Your debut single scored a number one in Japan. Why did it resonate so well with the Japanese?
I’d like to think because it was written so well! LOL.

Did you get to tour Japan?
No, I didn’t. I just wrote the song. The song was sung by a big Japanese artist named Yamashita Tomohisha.

You’ve also had a hit in Germany - how did that compare?
Every territory is different and unique. It became big because the song got also used for a Smart commercial. I’m always super grateful for every opportunity that comes my way.

Tell us about your new single ‘Love For Days’. What’s it about?
‘Love For Days’ is a romantic whimsical summer romance record. It’s about that moment when you realise that you’ve fallen in love and that you’re willing to go all the way in, all you need is just a sign from the other person so you can let yourself go, completely in the most vulnerable way possible. I’m very proud of it.

When did you write it and where did you record it?
I wrote and recorded the record here in LA.

How does ‘Love For Days’ represent your style?
It very much represents all that I am, because I put my life experiences into each song I write. It’s almost like every song is a page of my diary. So to answer your question, it represents me 100% because it’s me.

What are your hopes for ‘Love For Days’?
I just want people to really listen to my lyrics and my melodies. If it makes them dream away or think about hat someone that they fell in love with, then I’ve done my job as a songwriter and as an artist. I just wanna touch people, emotionally.

Finally, if you could wish for one thing to happen for you next year, what would it be?
I would love to get signed to a label here in the US and be recognised & well respected for my music.
