Bristol’s psyche-infused, rock-pop five-piece Goan Dogs are back with new single ‘Passing Through’ ahead of live dates in Guildford, Bournemouth, London and Bristol. We caught up with the band about their history so far and to get the inside story on their latest release - plus we’ve also got a competition running to win tickets to see the band in London or Bristol - so read on.

Grabbing holds of things, taking opportunities that come your way. Experiencing life and not just looking at it through a window.

First up, tell us bit about yourselves - what led you all to forming Goan Dogs?
Goan Dogs was born out of school friendships and mutual interests in music. it just happened.

Who do your take inspiration from?
Everywhere. Every Genre. But at the moment, these lot are getting us going. Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Michael Macdonald, Radiohead and Soft Hair.

Why the name Goan Dogs?
All the good names were taken.

How would you describe your musical style?
Psych-infused pop-rock.

Your latest release is single ‘Passing Through’. What’s it about?
Grabbing holds of things, taking opportunities that come your way. Experiencing life and not just looking at it through a window.

When did you write it and where did you record it?
We wrote the majority of the EP in Theo’s uncle’s farm house in snowy Scotland last year. We then spent a little time back in Bristol perfecting the arrangement and lyrics. Then we hit Invada studios, home of Beak/Geoff Borrow (Portishead). Especially pleased to have Ali Chant along producing the tracks.

How does ‘Passing Through’ build on your style?
This song turned us from our older desert genre, to our new psych pop rock thing. So a big turning point.

What are your hopes for the release?
We record and release the music we love in the hope that others will appreciate it in the same way. That, or an Oscar.

The single comes ahead of your live dates in Guildford, Bournemouth, London and Bristol from March 28th to 31st. What can we expect from these shows?
We’re pulling out all the stops for these shows, they will be a proper blowout. A fresh new set, inflatable dice and Sam will probably take his trousers off!

What else have you got planned for 2018?
Our biggest goal now is to write, record and release an album that we love and are proud of. After that, it’ll be to go on tour and play as many shows as possible!

Finally, if you could wish for one thing to happen to the band this year, what would it be?
We’d love to get on the road in Europe and the US. In the meantime, a nice little jaunt supporting Radiohead would do.
