North London singer-songwriter Effie has just released new single “Pressure” from her EP Could You Be?. We caught up with her to find out more as Effie gears up for a festival tour.
I find it hard to write if not based on personal emotion or experience.
2016 - what is your goal? The main goal for 2016 is to write as many great songs as possible and work with as many writers/producers as possible!
Did you make any new year’s resolutions?
I don’t really like the pressure of resolutions as such but I have kept up fitness and eating right and just setting myself little goals here and there.
What was the biggest lesson you learnt in 2015?
The biggest lesson I learnt was to relax!
What was the musical highlight of 2015?
Musical highlight was getting to put together the EP I am about to release and also doing a mini festival tour performing with my friends the DJ/producers “FOOR”.
Who are you excited to hear from in 2016?
I’m really hoping that Frank Ocean is gonna drop his album this year the wait has been too long!
Tell us about the record you have just released…
“Pressure” is the leading single off of my new EP Could You Be?. “Pressure” is really a song about the pressures we can sometimes find ourselves in when we start hanging out with a particular person, and we start feeling emotions we don’t necessarily want to let our selves feel out of fear of being hurt.
If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?
I find it hard to write if not based on personal emotion or experience so i was inspired by what was going on at the time. When writing the song I was sort of in that situation of not knowing whether to take something to the next level or not so it was a way for me to explain how I was feeling at the time.
If the record were an animal, what animal would it be?
Define your sound in five words…
If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?
Wow that’s hard. I’m gonna say James Blake right now as I’ve been listening to his new album on repeat lately.
If you could have written one song by another artist, what would it be?
“Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse.
Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?
My cousin Jessica as were so alike.
Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…
I have a really bad obsession with superstition for eg. I have to salute a magpie every time I see one no matter how many times otherwise I’m convinced it’s bad luck!
