Nigerian-born, London-raised singer Aminu came close to a deal with Simon Cowell in 2003, but turned down the opportunity to find his own voice. His latest is a personal song ‘Love U’. We found out more.
‘Love U’ is really like a throwback to me, because I wrote it some time ago.
2016 - what will you look back on most fondly from the year?
It was the last year for the Obama Family, who made many of us proud.
Did you make any new year’s resolutions?
For the first time in my life I made no new year’s resolutions. I have left it to see how things work out.
What was the biggest lesson you learnt in 2016?
Due to some personal experiences, I learnt not to take anything or anyone for granted.
What was the musical highlight of 2016?
Attending and performing at some of the best music festivals, which were held in Nigeria.
What is your musical highlight of 2017 so far?
The release of my second single and video has been a fulfilling and exciting experience.

‘Love U’ is really like a throwback to me, because I wrote it some time ago, and with the help of Rob Ra, we re-worked something that was old school and made it nu-skool.
If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?
Marvin Gaye – because he’s truly soulful and has so much passion in his performance.
Michael Buble – For his smooth style. His swag is tight.
Prince – For being so brave, funky, and innovative. Also he was instrumental in making his and a lot of other artists careers successful.
What inspired the record?
Missing a loved one.
If the record were an animal, what animal would it be?
It would be a white tiger.
