!(feature_l)http://relayer.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/spreads/4ddacce8fb533d0001000088.jpg!An innovative evening of interactive comedy and cabaret is coming to The Old Vic Tunnels, its exact details shrouded in secrecy until you’ve committed yourself to join the The Screen Room Society on Friday, June 3rd. Hosted by comedy duo Robin and Partridge, the two curious gentlemen are curating the entertainment which will also feature award-winning comic Scotsman Phil Kay and musical comedienne extraordinaire Rachel Parris.
Society bookers will be required to make or garner something prior to the night to distinguish which tribe they belong to (don’t ask, all will be revealed later on). On joining the society you solemnly swear to partake in numerous activities… you can only know that it is a secret club intent on fun and frolics run by various off-duty, down and out fairy tale characters. The evening’s festivities will spill over until 11.30pm, when guests will be invited to shake their fairy tale feathers to old skool rock n’ roll and funk n’ soul with fellow society members.
The night will also feature the debut of home-grown Old Vic Tunnels talent. Nurtured by Robin and Partridge, four young volunteers will make their performance debut by helping patrons along their merry way throughout the evening. These are just four of the volunteers involved as The Screening Room is programmed and run entirely by the volunteer scheme. Dedicated to innovation and social impact, The Old Vic Tunnels has shown sustained support for the work of its volunteers, and in supporting this stand alone venture, have given voice to their creative impulses and task to their practical skills.
The Old Vic Tunnels Volunteer Scheme aims to remove the obstacles put in front of young innovators in favour of creativity, open mindsets, risk taking and mutual learning. The current production has brought about roles in acting, casting, set design, producing, costume making, production, ushering, assistant directing, lighting design and sound & music design. See how they’ve developed at this interactive evening.
